No. This OPEN is a TON jetton and is not connected to several namesakes. The company OpenCoin, started in September 2012 as NewCoin, is now called Ripple. OpenCoin is also the name of a separate protocol for privacy-preserving electronic cash payments. The two websites once stored for this token now belong to others. The first promotes a different OpenCoin with the ticker OPEN, built on Solana. The second, once named as the Open Project site, leads to the page of Infometis AG, a Swiss reselling partner of the OpenProject project-management software. To be sure you are dealing with the TON token, check the network and the contract address shown in your wallet or in the DEX pool.

OpenCoin was announced in a Russian-language post in its Telegram channel that said simply that OpenCoin had launched. The post listed the next steps: build the OpenCoin website, list the token on dyor.io and on the DeDust.io exchange, and hold an OpenCoin airdrop, which was already marked as done. On the token's first anniversary, the channel looked back and said the idea had started as a joke. It recalled the first airdrop and mentioned scandals and disappointments along the way, without going into details.

According to the channel, OpenCoin grew into a wider brand called Open Project, with a development team it calls Open Lab. One post announced a new design system for all services and a fully reworked roadmap with product metrics, and named openproject.app as the project's site. A later post said the whole team of founders and employees had been replaced, without naming anyone, and hinted that something new was in preparation. It then introduced Open Project - Research, described as research into the TON blockchain to find a niche, together with a visual redesign. The channel has since been renamed Ex Open Project. Its description now reads: Open ecosystem for open world. Support has been discontinued.

The project published a roadmap for Shield and describes it as more than a custodial wallet: a tool for working with crypto on TON, meant both for regular users and for founders of other projects. The channel said Shield was listed in the wallets section of ton.app. It also reshared posts from Shield Foundation about whitelisting other TON tokens, such as What The ($WTF), and one saying that an NFT from the Shields Collection would be minted every 7 days starting 18 June. OpenViewer is the project's TON blockchain explorer, with focus modes that show only NFTs, only transactions or only tokens. The team announced testing of OpenViewer 2.0 and posted updates in a separate channel, @OpenViewerJournal. The channel also said OpenViewer was listed in the explorers section of ton.app.

In its Telegram channel, Open Project said it had sent an application to take part in The Open League and had locked 1,382,887 OPEN for 180 days. A follow-up post asked members to leave comments on the project's thread on the TON Research forum, saying this would strengthen its position in the league. A later post announced that OpenCoin was officially in The Open League and said that since entering it the project had moved from 34th to 31st place. The channel did not say which ranking this was.

The channel said OpenCoin shares a liquidity pool on DeDust with the HYDRA project. Under that arrangement, according to the post, HYDRA pays its own tokens as farming rewards to people who add liquidity to the pools of its partner projects. Separately, the project said it had added 56,000 OPEN to the liquidity pool of the trading pair it calls OPEN/TON.

Open Lab announced the TON Reality Protocol (TRP), meant to put full 3D models in FBX or GLTF format into NFTs. The team promised an open React library, API methods and opcodes, first support in OpenViewer, use in a future project called OpenCity and, later, a TON RWA Reality Protocol. Open Lab also said it was considering adding a centralised exchange to Shield, and published a form inviting partners to work with it on Open Project GameFi apps built on the project's own NFT platform.
