"Wolf and Hare," also known as "Nu, pogodi!" in Russian, is a Soviet and later Russian animated series that gained tremendous popularity, especially in Eastern Bloc countries. The first episode premiered on January 1, 1969, and since then, the series has become a classic part of the animation legacy. The story revolves around the adventures of the Wolf, who relentlessly tries to catch the Hare. In their pursuit, the characters find themselves in a series of humorous and comedic situations, with the Hare always emerging unscathed. The films were produced at the Moscow-based Sojuzmultfilm studio. The creator of the series and the main characters was Vyacheslav Kotyonochkin, who also directed episodes from 1969 to 1993. Episodes 17 and 18 were created by Vladimir Tarasov. After the death of Anatoliy Papanov, the voice of the Wolf, in 1987, the production of episodes at the Sojuzmultfilm studio was halted but resumed in 1993. In 2005, Vyacheslav Kotyonochkin's son, Alexey Kotyonochkin, decided to continue his father's work by directing a new series of cartoons, which concluded in 2006. In 2019, Sojuzmultfilm studio announced plans to create additional episodes in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the cartoon. The new series was set to consist of 26 episodes, with the premiere scheduled for spring 2020, although it did not take place at that time.
